We now have two workshops--Makeville Studio, our original community shop on the 2nd floor and Makeville Workbench, a dedicated classroom space on the 1st floor.
Our fully-equipped community wood shop has open studio hours for folks that want to work independently on their own projects.
How it works:
1. Woodworkers with recent experience using large machines (not contractor/carpentry/portable machine experience) can schedule a Workshop Certification. Beginners should take Intro to Woodworking to qualify for Workshop Certification.
2. Reserve and pay for your studio time in advance via our online booking system. Learn more about usage rates, storage and availability.
3. Bring your materials and project plans and get started!
Makeville Workbench is our ground floor annex, a dedicated teaching space outfitted with woodworking machines, central dust collection, individual workbenches, and best-in-class hand tools. It’s a little slice of woodworking heaven and the only place in the NYC area where you can learn fine woodworking.
We've always offered small classes with great instructors who are as passionate about their craft as they are about teaching. Workbench expands on that tradition with special events and master classes featuring guest instructors--opportunities to learn from some of the most knowledgeable folks in woodworking today.
Makeville is a community of craftspeople and artists of diverse backgrounds and skill levels, but we share a common culture of professionalism, shop etiquette and safety. Learn more about our shop culture...Makeville Studio Code of Conduct
